Satyr's Head, 2020

This Satyr bust was designed in late 2019, sculpted shortly thereafter and molded just before everything shut down due to the pandemic.   I spent the rest of 2020 casting, painting and punching hair into it as time allowed.   It's sculpted in Monster Clay, and cast in platinum silicone from Smooth On.   The horns are painted translucent resin.  It's life-sized to a human head.  I had a great time making this guy, and hope to do more silicone heads as time allows.   You can see the original maquette in grey chavant clay, I find it very helpful to start with a small 3D model, rather than an illustration.   However, it is also based on an illustration I did circa 2016,"Satyr's Hollow", which I am posting at the bottom of this group.

The Sin of Gluttony

The next piece in my Seven Deadly Sins series, Gluttony.   Note the literal sausage fingers and extra mouth.  He has a sumo wrestler-style bun on his head in the form of a sausage casing knot.

Monstrogasm

Acrylic and Prismacolor pencils on hot press illustration board. This was done as a private commission for a friend.    He wanted a trifecta of good old-fashioned monster-ey monsters against a plain white background.  It was the first time in years that I did something with actual paint.  For me, working with traditional media yields much more satisfying results, though when it comes to speed and convenience, digital painting can't be beat.

The Sin of Wrath

The Sin of Wrath, part of my ongoing series of sculptures based on the Seven Deadly Sins. The last image is the original pencil sketch, from about 5 years ago.   Based on my reading, Wrath was sometimes symbolized in medieval imagery as a beast of prey like a wolf or a leopard, with an arrow piercing its heart.   So my interpretation is made of flames and has the legs and tail of a wolf, and an arrow through its heart.
